Senator Payano & School Committee Member visit Spark and South Lawrence East
Senator Payano and School Committee Member Donna Bertolino brought real life examples to a Spark Academy Civics Class and enjoyed a visit to several South Lawrence East Elementary classes earlier this week. The Senator, who attended school in Lawrence, connected with students about culture and politics. Students also performed a dance and enjoyed a read aloud with our visitors. Thank You Mobile Market Volunteers
Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who help to set up and distribute food each month at the Mobile Market. More than 450 families register for this market and the volunteers are critical to getting that much food organized and packed. Nutrition Services and LPS appreciate all your hard work!

Celebrating Autism Acceptance Day 2026
Students at the SES Annex celebrated Autism Acceptance Day on April 2nd with many colorful activities. Everyone made part of a puzzle piece mural in art, found positive words in a scavenger hunt, dressed in all the colors of the rainbow, and as you can see, enjoyed a story time book and colored a character from the book together.

Spark's Miracle March
Spark Academy celebrated "Miracle March" with creative events all month long. On Homeroom Pride Day, they represented their teacher's college - Vikings anyone? Each grade competed with History riddles, ELA trivia, memorizing the digits of Pi and more all month long. Sparky says "Well Done"!

2026-27 Full Day Pre-Kindergarten Program
Lawrence Public Schools is excited to expand full-day pre-kindergarten programming for the 2026-27 school year! Please see details below and on the flyer, including how to apply to the district-wide lottery:
- Eligibility: Student must be 4 years old by September 1, 2026; can reside anywhere in Lawrence
- Locations: Lawrence Early Childhood Center, 303 Haverhill St. (also known as St. Mary’s); and the Rollins Early Childhood Center (451 Howard St.)
- Hours: Monday-Friday 7:50am-2:50pm

This program is a two-year commitment, with the expectation that students will complete kindergarten at the assigned location.

Please note this lottery is only for the limited number of seats in the new full-day preK program. Regular annual enrollment for half day preK (morning or afternoon) is currently ongoing and kindergarten registration will open next month, with space for all Lawrence residents with age-eligible children.

Taste Talk Brings Birria Tacos to Guilmette Complex
Birria Tacos were a hit at the Guilmette Elementary and Middle School this week. Nutrition Services has been doing samples of new lunch options at different schools around Lawrence this year. Students get to pick a new food to try, have a sampling day and vote to get it on the school lunch menu. Student group Los Tipicos performed for the cafeteria staff to thank them for their hard work!

Outstanding LPS Teamwork Got the Job Done
Outstanding job by the many Lawrence Public Schools team members from IT, PAC, LPS Media, Facilities, Lawrence High School, School Safety and Central Office along with Lawrence Police, who worked hard to prepare for the live stream of an onsite Joint Ways and Means Committee hearing hosted Monday in the Performing and Fine Arts Center at Lawrence High. Senator Pavel Payano requested the site for the meeting he chairs. Lots of technology and teamwork was required to pull this off smoothly! Great job everyone!

Manguito Teaches Caribbean Rhythms at Frost Elementary
New England based musical group, Manguito, brought their wide range of Caribbean music to Frost Elementary recently. Using instruments ranging from flute to conga and tambourine, they taught students musical styles including rumba, son, plena, and merengue. This engaging presentation got students on stage playing instruments and dancing in their seats. Thank you to Manguito for teaching us and to the Frost Social Justice team for making this happen!
